Closed Loop Geothermal Systems (Preferred Method)

Horizontal Loop

  • Can be used when there is sufficient land space
  • Pipes are laid horizontally in trenches

Pond (Lake) Loops

  • Economical to install when an adequate body of water is nearby
  • Pipe is laid on the bottom of the pond or lake in a coiled formation

Vertical Loop

  • A good solution for a geothermal heat pump when there is not a sufficient amount of land space
  • Pipes are inserted vertically into holes that have been bored into the ground by well drilling equipment
  • The holes may be drilled from 75 to 400 feet deep
